I was recently asked what training I did on my holidays

You know how it is….you are going on holidays to a beautiful tropical island where bikinis, surfing, and sunset drinks are the daily routine! You’ve worked hard to get that bod into shape and may have even had a spray tan to get that two weeks lying by the pool look before departure. Parts of your packing essentials are sneakers and Lycra as you have every intention of going to that hotel gym daily!

Sounds familiar…well a two-week trip recently to Hawaii, I did all those things except I didn’t make it to the gym once! However, I did keep myself active and fit while not picking up one weight. Here are my top 3 tips for holiday training.

Walk Get up early and see the sunrise, ask concierge for some recommended walking routes easily done from where you are staying and if you are a little more adventurous go on a hike and explore the wonders of nature.

Book an activity Kayaking is a great way to explore; it’s also a great upper body workout where you get to pull and push utilizing back, chest and arm muscles. Stand up paddle boarding is also another fabulous way to explore waterways and beaches and uses the core, upper body and back muscles. A bike tour will let you sight see places further afield than on foot whilst keeping the body moving.

Just go outside The benefit of being outdoors is an excellent way to rejuvenate your mind and body. Soak up some sun (safely) and also some Vitamin D, this helps calcium absorption which is essential for bone and dental health. The natural light will also help with sleep especially if you are a little jet lag. And anything outdoorsy usually involves some physical activity that pumps up the endorphins and gives you that feel-good- feeling, clearing the head and promoting calmness.

And you know if the gym is your thing, then keep it short and sweet so you can enjoy your beautiful holiday surrounds!
